Book Recommendations for Non-bookworm Friends

Do you have that one friend who doesn’t read but wants to read? Someone who keep saying “I really want to read but I’m too lazy to do it.”? Especially the one who asks “Do you have a book to recommend that would make me be into books?” Now that’s where your adrenaline as a bookworm strikes: recommending a book to a non-bookworm friend who wants to read books.

I know based on experience that encouraging someone who doesn’t like reading to read a book is a bit of both an excitement and a challenge. A lot of my friends keep asking me for book recommendation because they’re starting to be a bit jealous of me because I can read a book in a day, not to mention I keep hugging my current read every day for all of them to see (Hey, that’s what I do with books. I bring them wherever I go even though I know I wouldn’t have the chance to read. Just the presence of it comforts me.).

So here are some of the books/series (more on series) that is best for book recommendations that will sure make your friend into a bookworm that you are!

  • Percy Jackson and The Olympians Series by Rick Riordan

Title: Percy Jackson and The Olympian Series (Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief | Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters | Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Titan’s Curse | Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Battle of the Labyrinth | Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Last Olympian) | Author: Rick Riordan | Books: 5 | Cover Artist: John Rocco | Genre: Fantasy, Children’s Literature, Adventure Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Mystery

So I’m not denying that I’ve been in the Percy Jackson for what seems like forever but this is not a biased opinion or something. Most of us are familiar with Greek Mythology because it’s part of the lessons we encounter in school. And sometimes, we got curious about that whole story of the myth. So what’s better way to read it in 20th century style? Your friend will surely get hooked on this book from the very first page. Yes it belongs to Children book but book genres don’t really define the greatness of the books. It was in high school when I first the book of this series, The Lightning Thief, and I just read it because I’ve seen the Sea of Monsters movie and I was so restless because of the cliffhanger.

When you know the story of the series already, it wouldn’t be hard to explain it to your friend. The book has just the perfect amount of adventure and humor. And the way Uncle Rick work his magic with words is just magical! It’s the very best series to recommend for friends especially if they want to read an adventure book first. I’m pretty sure they will be sticking their nose in a book if they read this series!

  • Mara Dyer Series

Title: Mara Dyer Series (The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer | The Evolution of Mara Dyer | The Retribution of Mara Dyer) | Author: Michelle Hodkin | Books: 3 | Genre: Young Adult, Mystery, Romance, Fantasy,Paranormal

Now this series right here is really indulging. Just like what the old saying say “Never judge a book by its cover.” It applies in this series. The cover is not that catchy for me, plus it will give you a dark vibe. When you look at the cover, you’ll think that the story is somehow dark, sad or gloomy. Well, you’re wrong! The story is amazing! It’s catchy and indulging right from the first page of the first book. And yes maybe there’s a hint of darkness in the story but it’s not all about darkness. There’s also humor, friendship, family and romance. And I’m telling you of the entire book that has a dark vibe; this book has the sweetest romance parts ever! Like, I’ve been in love to Noah Shaw right after his first appearance in the book. He’s so amazing! I could quote a couple or two conversations Noah and Mara has that shows what a cute couple they are!

Mara: I hate you too, by the way. Just so you know.

Noah: Oh, I do. I would suggest make-up sex, but…

Mara: Too bad you have scruples.

Noah: Now you’re just being cruel.

Mara: I like pushing your buttons.

Noah: You’d enjoy it more if you undid them first.

Now tell me if that wasn’t cute at all! Noah is just so dreamy in both physical and personality department. I couldn’t help the grin in my face and the blush every time I talk about Mara and Noah (especially Noah.) *dreamy sigh*. There’s also this conversation with Noah and her friend Jamie that’s a little funny you couldn’t help but chuckle.

Jamie: What was it called? (They are talking about a book)

Mara: New Theories in Genetics by— holy shit.

Jamie: Is that… a pseudonym?

I know you chuckled! Haha! I’m telling you this is an amazing series! It’s the perfect series for a friend who loves mystery and adventure with a little bit of love. Before I proceed to the next book, let me leave you something that will definitely hook in this series.

David: You were planned, Noah.

Noah: For what?

David: To be the hero. To slay the dragon. But you fell in love with it instead.

  • Fifty Shades Trilogy

Title: Fifty Shades Trilogy (Fifty Shades of Grey | Fifty Shades Darker | Fifty Shades Freed) | Author: E.L James | Books: 3 | Genre: Erotic Romance

I know what you guys are thinking they’ll say if you recommend this to them, “Ugh. Fifty shades? Isn’t that the porno movie?” *roll eyes* Let me get something clear here, Fifty Shades series is not just an erotic book but also a romance book. And it has a very good romance story, I’ll tell you that. But your friends who haven’t read it yet don’t know that. So when you recommend this book to them, explain to them how amazing this series is! Fifty Shades is not just about sex and whipping and pleasure. There are things that are great beyond the whipping and the sex. Just like how Christian fell in love with Ana despite all the darkness in his past that kept him from feeling the emotion. And just like how Ana could bring the best in Christian. They are a perfect couple! Fifty Shades Series is not just a porno. It has a story! A good one! And it’s not just all about romance, it also talks about family and friends and trust. So just look past the sex parts and appreciate the story. Make that crystal clear to your friends!

  • Ghost Huntress Series

Title: Ghost Huntress Series (Ghost Huntress: The Awakening | Ghost Huntress: The Guidance | Ghost Huntress: The Reason | Ghost Huntress: The Counseling | The Ghost Huntress: The Discovery | Ghost Huntress: The Journey | Ghost Huntress: The Tidings) | Author: Marley Gibson | Books: 7 | Genre: Fantasy, Paranormal, Ghost, Young Adult, Teen, Romance, Horror, Mystery

Now this is for your friends who love paranormal and horror kinds of stuff. This series has seven books. I know it’s a little too much to recommend seven book series to a non-bookworm friend but I know it will be worth it. Because by the time they’ll finish the whole series, they’ll be looking for more! The series has a lot of kinds of genre in it, mystery, paranormal, horror, humor, romance and even a touch of history of the country of London. I’m telling you, this is a good series to recommend. You will be hooked by it immediately! I was in high school when I read this and I just got a habit that whenever I read a paranormal or horror kind book, I always read it with a friend. Not necessarily that they’ll read it too but just someone who will be beside me during the spooky parts. And there are a lot of spooky parts in this book! It’s worth the read I promise you that!

  • 39 Clues Series

39Clues11bks
Title: 39 Clues The Clue Hunt Series (39 Clues: The Maze of Bones | 39 Clues: One False Note | 39 Clues: The Sword Thief | 39 Clues: Beyond the Grave | 39 Clues: The Black Circle | 39 Clues: In Too Deep | 39 Clues: The Viper’s Nest | 39 Clues: The Emperor’s Code | 39 Clues: Storm Warning | 39 Clues: Into The Gauntlet | 39 Clues: Vespers Rising) | Authors: Rick Riordan, Roland Smith, David Baldacci, Patrick Carman, Peter Lerangis, Gordon Korman, Jeff Hirsch, Linda Sue Park, Margareth Peterson Haddix, Natalie Standiford, Judy Blundell | Books: 11 | Genre: Adventure Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Mystery, Children, Fiction, Fantasy, Realistic Fiction, Action

This series is for a mystery geek friend. I never had encountered a series with more than just two authors! This series has ten (I think? Not sure. You can search for it though. *wink*)! And in every book there’s a different author. How did I know this series? Well, the answer is a no brainer; the author of the first book is none other than Uncle Rick Riordan! And I thought I’ll just read the first one because it’s Rick’s work but no, I’ve read the whole freaking series! This series will surely blow your friend’s mind if they so love answering riddles and puzzles. Plus the book has sometimes free cards for you to play with. The book is about a family called Cahill that’s in search for the 39 clues to being the world’s strongest person. After Grace Cahill died, she stated in her will that the remaining family members of the Cahill clan will have their choice whether to accept a two million dollar check and continue living their peaceful life or search the 39 clues and become the world’s strongest person. In which the two protagonist, Amy and Dan Cahill chose the latter. And the adventure begins. It’s a perfect book, I’m telling ya!

Now I know we all have different kinds of friends and different books we’d like to recommend them to read. And these series I’ve recommend are the series I personally recommend my friends. And they love it so far. They’re starting to be a bookworm slowly. It’s still up to you what you want to recommend to them, of course. But in case you have no perfect book to recommend a friend because all the books you’ve read are just as amazing as the other books (It’s hard I know. I’ve been there.) try recommending these series. Maybe that’ll be their starting point in being a bookworm like you!

Thanks for reading! Spread the love!
