Synopsis (MyAnimeList):

When a shapeshifting demon with a thirst for human flesh, known as “youma,” arrives in Raki’s village, a lone woman with silver eyes walks into town with only a sword upon her back. She is a “Claymore,” a being manufactured as half-human and half-youma, for the express purpose of exterminating these monsters. After Raki’s family is killed, the Claymore saves his life, but he is subsequently banished from his home. With nowhere else to go, Raki finds the Claymore, known as Clare, and decides to follow her on her journeys.

As the pair travel from town to town, defeating youma along the way, more about Clare’s organization and her fellow warriors comes to light. With every town cleansed and every demon destroyed, they come closer to the youma on which Clare has sought vengeance ever since she chose to become a Claymore.

Hiya bessies!

How are you all?

Here I am again with a review! But not a book review like the usual but an anime review! Can you believe that? I actually managed to go back and finish one anime! I didn’t know that I can still go back to this world because it’s been so long since the last time I watched anime.

The reason why I found this anime is connected with books. I was hanging out on Goodreads one time when this particular manga appeared on the side part of the site in the “Recommendation” section. So I searched for its anime and I found it!

And because it was unexpected, I wasn’t supposed to write a review about it. Unfortunately, the anime went a little far as to create ruckus in my head leaving me a bit hangover. And now I badly want to let this hangover out and just rant or talk or whatever these thoughts inside my head.

I hope you’ll survive the review till the end. See you on the other side! 😀

The anime is set in a world of dark fantasy where monsters exist and the warriors to fight them off. The name of the monsters are ‘Youma’, they are human-eating monsters specifically the guts. I know. Gore right? Then the warriors who fight those Youma’s are called ‘Claymores’, they are half-human half-youma women with silver eyes. I know again, how are they warriors if they are half-monsters themselves? Well, that’s part of their burden as a warrior. They side to the humans and protect them against youmas but when they use too much of their youma side, they will become a full youma. So it is dangerous. And for some weird reason, only women are capable of being a claymore. That’s because, as said to the anime, women survived longer during their experiments and they tend to not be a full youma that fast compared to men. So…

And the story is about a claymore named Clare. She is in the lowest rank claymore and everyone underestimates her but she is actually pretty good. She’s fought really amazing and she sometimes becomes even more amazing of those higher ranks than her. And I saw her develop and evolve all throughout the anime. And boy did she evolve a lot.

Clare was once cared by a claymore, Teresa, who saved her from a youma. She then kept coming with Teresa wherever she go. Until they formed a sisterly bond. And they cared for each other so much. Teresa was the rank 1 claymore but then she was killed by the rank 2 claymore, Prescilla, who became an awakened-being, it is a type of youma higher than the normal types of youma. Prescilla wasn’t strong enough to fight her youma side so she became a full youma and because she is strong and has a high rank being a claymore, she turned into an awakend-being when she became a youma.

And because Clare can’t accept that Teresa was dead, she became a claymore herself to avenge Teresa’s death.

My thoughts on this anime? When do I even begin?

I love Clare. She’s strong and independent and she don’t know the meaning of the words ‘give up’. Nope. It’s not in her vocabulary. The only thing I do not like is the other characters.

As Clare continue her journey on finding Prescilla, she met a lot of higher ranked claymores. But for some reason, those higher ranked claymores end up the first to be knocked down in every battle. Leaving only Clare standing and finishing the fight. Like wtf. Clare was supposed to be weak, right? So why are the higher ranked claymores weaker than her? Seriously? They are all talk and poise and aura but no action. Sure they are strong at first impression but they are not strong enough to survive the whole battle. -_-

And also, I noticed that whenever Clare is close to dying in a battle, someone would always save her. A stranger, a comrade, her companion Raki, anyone! Anyone will always save her. The author obviously doesn’t want Clare to die but he wants her close to dying.

If I were being completely honest, there’s nothing interesting in this anime aside from its ending. Every episode leaves you hanging and wanting for the next. I was so curious to know how this anime would end so I watched all the episodes. But really, I think it’s boring. Haha! There’s not much to watch aside from the cool and different techniques and skills and ability every claymore has.

Also, there’s this character named Raki, who became Clare’s companion after being saved by Clare from a youma. Yeah. It’s history repeating itself on Clare huh? But Raki is a guy and it’s like he fell in love with Clare but Raki is still young. At first I thought his love was just a sisterly kind of love but then they kissed and he confessed so no it was actually a romantic kind of love. Hehe. And he irritates me right around the end of the anime. He’s the one who saved Clare from almost becoming a full youma but when Clare needed him most to prevent her from really awakening, he’s nowhere to be found because he got scared and actually hide. Like wtf?! And he travelled a very long journey just to see Clare again (because they got separated for Raki’s sake)!! And he was useless!

But he redeemed himself on the very last episode. He’s actually the one who snapped Clare back in the real world and stopping her in killing Prescilla because he thought that Prescilla was just a victim of youma attack too, just like him. But aside from those, he’s a pretty useless characters.

And the ending! What in the freaking mars was that ending?

It wasn’t really the end because Clare didn’t kill Prescilla which is what she really wanted to do. And they met one of the strongest awakened-being ever existed but they just talked and kind of like ‘see you again soon then let’s fight’. Yeah. And there are still a lot of problems left unsolved at the end of this anime. And when I say a lot I meant it’s close to all of them. Lol.

I hate the ending, yes I do. It doesn’t look like an ending and this anime doesn’t have a second season so dang!

Anyway, to wrap this up, this anime is good but not that good. Sure it’s boring sometimes but there’s always a lot of youmas to kill so it won’t be boring that long. If you are the kind of person who appreciates dark fantasy so much with a bit of gore thrown in, then this anime is perfect for you. But if you do not like gore, then stay away from this. How gore you say? They sliced arms and sometimes bodies in halves. They also chopped youma arms to pieces to prevent them from regenerating. And there’s a monster-eating-human-guts kind of scenes. So if you do not like that kind of gore, I suggest not to watch this one.

And that’s it for my very first anime review! Did you make it up to here? If you do, wow! Thank you so much for reading this long review! Bless you heart! 😀

I don’t think I will regularly update these kinds of review but I will surely not stop reviewing anime if I have a chance. It won’t be as regular as my book reviews but I’m sure this isn’t going to be my first and last anime review. 🙂

Thank you so much for reading up to here! Tell me what you think of this anime or this long post in the comments!

Love you all!
